Making the Z-List into a Mobile Community **Updated

Filed under: Design, State of the Industry, User Generated Content — by Jaynie.K at 10:33 am on Thursday, January 4, 2007

My friend and yours, Mack over at The Viral Garden, started this wonderful lil’ thing called the Z-List back on December 12th.  The Z-List is an attempt to link-bolster some underappreciated blogs and, in turn, give a meaningful poke n’ prod to the Technorati rating system.

Personally, I’ve seen a huge jump in my Technorati rating on my own blog, and I’ve also been introduced to some great new reads to add to my ever-expanding list;  If my Google homepage wasn’t all decked out with multiple tabs and other obsessive-compulsive widgetified madness, it would surely be bursting at the seams.

Well, I have a new twist.  Danny has tooted my horn about Wiffiti after trying it out at a holiday party, and now it’s time for Wiffiti to crash into the Z-List…

The screen background is a mash-up of Sandy’s fantastic "z-list quilt" over at PurpleWren.  (Thanks Sandy!)  I couldn’t help but spin off yet another permutation… and this time make it interactive and mobile.

Here’s what you do.  First, go here.

Did you go?

Come on, go.

Now, send a text message up onto the Z-List screen by texting "zlist2" followed by your message to 87884.  There’s no cost (it’s just a regular text message), and it’s as random and responsive as you make it.  Leave your blog url, your signature, a z-list greeting, a call to action, or just let us know how much you love the Olsen twins.  Let’s collect a roving cache of z-lister thoughts!

So go… add your comments, and let’s keep this conversation going in as many forms as possible…

(Wow, I think if I added one more link to this post, WordPress may implode.)

*** Thanks to everyone who’s been playing with Wiffiti! It’s turning out to be a neat visual way to display blog comments. If anyone wants a Wiffiti screen of their own for their blog (I can even personalize it with some of your blog artwork), just shoot me an email at jayne at locamoda dotcom. We’re beta trialing these screens, so I’d be more than happy to set you up!

Hello Jaynie,

Thank you Jaynie. It looks pretty interesting. I wish this could work from outside the US. Still… stunning!

Wait a minute… perhaps you could send my message?
Now that would be a nice 2.0 way to link anyway. ;)

“zlist2 Love this Z-mutation! Thanks (again) Mack… and now Jaynie. Best wishes from mindblob!”

[…] In response, we created a Wiffiti screen to capture the Z-List vibe.  You can read about the impetus here. […]

Jayne … this looks cool — though I seem to have the same problem as mindblob. Now, if only we could have one of these running in Australia!
