Caution: Naked Ladies and Fried Chicken
I couldn’t be any more confused by PETA’s whole naked campaign thing. Here’s a video they did as a sort of faux state of the union address. In it, this smokin’ hot girl gets up, says something about how we need to treat animals better, and how KFC sucks, all while stripping layer after layer of clothes off.
(Considering the video is VERY not safe for work, I’ll just give you guys the link. There is also an embed option.)
Here’s the problem. I barely paid any attention to anything she had to say. In fact, I just watched it, and I’m still sort of craving a steak. And fried chicken sounds pretty good, too, for that matter. These girls getting naked is really no different than lighting someone on fire in the middle of the street and slapping a PETA sign on him. It’s attention for all the wrong reasons.
It’s essentially the same problem the environmentalists have had with the green movement. All the focus has been on the problem, rather than concentrating on how fixing the problem benefits the lay person. It’s no surprise that green became mainstream as gas prices rose to astronomical levels.
So, basically, PETA girls, keep getting naked if you’d like. You won’t hear me objecting. But don’t do it to save animals, because all that does is turn your movement into a circus side show. And nobody respects that.

This was it! That was the one thing I needed to see in order to take PETA seriously! How have I been so naive? It all makes perfect sense now! I’m going to throw away all the meat in my fridge immediately!A naked girl who reads cue cards poorly, YES! THANK YOU PETA!
Damned straight! Abusing animals = bad. Exploiting women = good!Danny’s PETA post from late 2005 remains one of my favorite BMA posts. The PETA workers posting as ‘anonymous’ were classic!http://www.beyondmadisonavenue.com/2005/12/sex-sellseven-at-peta/
Holy shit, mack! That’s awesome! Jeez…I wish I was around here back then, I love arguments like those!
And, yes Chris, thank you PETA, indeed!
[...] One of our readers stumbled across this link and was kind enough to share it with it. PETA’s own website is showcasing their collection of commercials that have been banned from general television as well as the Superbowl due to their racy nature. As we’ve discussed before, PETA seems to have no issue exploiting women or anyone else to get their messages across. In fact, one of our most popular posts here on BMA showcased their 2005 Christmas campaign featuring "Sexy Santa" and her "booty bag". I guess sex sells, even to vegetarians.A particular favorite?
