Not Funny; Nope, Not Yet.

steve erwin I can take a joke. Like, almost any joke. And I’m typically the first to take it. People go to say, “Yo, Jaynie, can’t you take a joke?,” but I’ve already taken, like, 5. But, South Park, this goes too far, waa-hay-hay too soon. Steve Erwin at Satan’s halloween party with a sting-ray hanging out of his chest? Really? No. No. NO. Really? Sure, I’m not surprised… but could you at least wait 4 minutes since his death? Or at least until Erwin’s cute little daughter turns 9? When a celebrity brand has an actual person behind it, you need to tread a little bit lighter… even if that’s your schtick. [photo cred to Daily Mail UK.] Technorati Tags: , , ,

This reminds me of that time I called my friend John and was all “Oh, man. You know South Park? Well, I never watched it, but like, two days ago, I saw a rerun on comedy central, and I thought it was a little funny, and the little pieces I’ve seen before have always been a little funny, but I thought it’d be stupid, so I never watched it, you know? Anyway, last night I saw the FUNNIEST EPISODE EVER and I think I’m a fan now.”

and he said “Yeah, I used to love that show. I watched it all the time. Until one episode that was so gross and disturbing that I’ve never gone back. It was too disturbing.”

and I was like, “Oh, so maybe you haven’t seen this show, it’s one where this kid makes fun of Cartman or something, and to get back at him Cartman decides to make the kid cry in front of his favorite band so they think he’s a baby. So Cartman spends the whole episode trying to lure Radiohead to South Park with some fake benefit concert just for revenge. And then he also arranges for the kid’s parents to get killed, then cooks them in chili and feeds the kid his parents and it was hilarious and he’s all ‘I made you eat your parents!’ and sings and the kid cries and Radiohead calls him a baby and it was maybe the funniest thing that ever could have happened. So now I’m a fan.”

and then John said. “I’ve seen that episode. That’s the one that made me stop watching.”

Anyway, in short: It was a great joke. Because Satan and his buddies thought it was someone with poor taste dressed as Steve Irwin, but it was really him. Which is hilarious.

tom,

that was a lovely and concise summation.
next time, don’t be so terse.

but i still contend that’s it’s way too soon to involve him in a “dead” joke.

If the cartoon isn’t funny, then you definitely don’t want to see Bill Maher’s costume this year.

whoa doggies…

danny, I had not seen that.

I feel like that’s in worse taste?

Am I being a supersensitive puss here?
