Starbucks takes over the world, but doesn’t give anything back.

This ought to be good for PR. Starbucks recently sent a coupon via email for free coffee to a number of employees in the southeast with instructions to pass it on to friends and family.

“Unfortunately, it has been redistributed beyond the original intent and modified beyond Starbucks control. Effective immediately, this offer will no longer be valid at any Starbucks locations.”

Or more simply put, “Oops! This is costing us more than we want to spend!”

  1. The social impact of Starbucks especially throughout asia is woefully underestimated lol. Visit any starbucks in Shanghai and you will see a mixture of expat guys pretending to read an english newspaper = “hey I am an english speaker” and local “westernised” girls looking for a boyfriend..the first point of contact being an offer to exchange english tuition for manadarin tuition.

Starbucks is about more than coffee…its bringing cultures together.

  2. Danny,

You make a good point, but this story was all over the blogsphere over a week ago. Also, there are now a lot of follow-up stories about Caribou Coffee honoring the coupons that Starbucks refuses to accept.

  3. Greg,

At the time I originally posted (a week ago) I hadn’t noticed any other blogs with the story, which is why I didn’t link to another.

I’ve since followed up with the information on Caribou Coffee which I did notice first on AdPulp (and credited them for).
