“Hey, you type fast.” I swear a CD just said that to me. What kind of writers does he normally have here? If you’ve been writing for a living for longer than a day, I’d expect some efficiency in finding your way around the keyboard.

Now I know I can be a bit of a writing perfectionist (though I’m faaaaar from perfect - extra thanks to the excellent editors and proofreaders I’ve worked with), but really, shouldn’t the desire to write be at the core of every copywriter? Just like you need an inner fire for design to be a good art director?

I mean, I know being able to think is #1, but how could you stand being at your job all day if you didn’t love writing? If you didn’t love the click of the keyboard. The feel of the pen dragging across the page. Getting a laugh from your own Fruedian typos.

But maybe I’m just crazy and am the only copywriter who, at the end of the day writes a blog, a journal, contributes to message boards, and is currently tempted to join a “write a novel in a month” group.

Anyone got an opinion? Do you love/hate/don’t care the basics of your job?
