Hugh MacLeod gets blogs. As one of the internet’s biggest proponents of blogs, Hugh doesn’t see blogs as simply a vehicle for commerce. He sees them as a way to share ideas, to actively involve consumers and use their inputs as a way to direct the future of companies and their offerings.

A perfect example of this is the upcoming release of the movie Hallam Foe, which he blogs about here on his blog Gaping Void. The path many people would likely take would be purely promotional: “Hey my director pal has a new movie coming out, here’s the site for it, you guys should check it out!”. Not Hugh. Hugh and his director pal David MacKenzie have decided to actively involve readers of his blog in the making of the movie. Hugh has posted a link to the script for the movie in its current form on his blog. He and David want readers to comment on the content of the script, suggest revisions, and they will then make any changes before shooting begins in January.

A brilliant and revolutionary idea. In other words, business as usual for Hugh.
